BDD 1227 project is the first ground-up construction in the Beirut Digital District (BDD). It consists of two office buildings separated by a nineteenth-century church.
BDD 1227 adds over 18,000 sq m (194,000 sf) of office space to the vibrant BDD community, a dedicated hub for the burgeoning digital and creative economy of Lebanon.
Both buildings are located on the western edge of the BDD, a 1.8-hectare (4.44 acre) site amid 19th-century structures, facing the main piazza to the east. The buildings communicate visually through their shifting volumes, offering views of the old, renovated St. George Church in between. Semi-public spaces are carved in the allowable building envelope, creating outdoor terraces for the tenants on multiple floors with sight lines towards the piazza, the Mediterranean Sea, and the city.
“Understanding the history, seeing what’s around, and envisioning how this scale and type of project could fit within that specific context was very important.”
